It has been a rough few weeks for us. A few weeks ago, we got a phone call from our son advising us that our three and a half month old grandson was in the hospital and not expected to live. Of course we rushed up to Bismarck and spent the next five days standing vigil in his hospital room, praying for a miracle. I recently received an email from Bill Chappel over at Digital Dowsing. He wrote that he's getting ready to release his first software app for the iPhone and iPod (no specifics on whether it has to be the Touch or not), the iOvilus. From what he describes, it sounds like you'll be able to emulate the Ovilus speech mode on your iPhone or iPod. When the app is ready for distribution, he'll be posting it on twitter and through his website, digitaldowsing.com. I'll be interested...

The '360' Degree Recorder

For those who have been watching GHI, you're all familiar with one of Barry's favorite new pieces of equipment. He calls it the 360 degree mic. While it probably does pick up sounds all around the unit, I'd argue that it's truly only recording 210 degrees, as the front mics have a recording arc of 90 degrees while the rear mics pick up 120 degrees. Still, the very nice thing about the unit is that it will record and write in WAV at 24 bit quality. Very nice, indeed. The one...
