A new release by yours truly. You guys have always wondered what I was up to! It's a book that many have told me to do over the years despite the fact there are dozens out there already. My approach was not to tout my knowledge of theories or how expansive my popularity is (would be a short chapter anyway), but to tell it like it is from my personal experience and observations. While it's written for the amateur who wants to either start their own group or wonders how they function, I feel the average group member will learn something beneficial from this book.
I briefly cover the history of parapsychology and lead into a discussion of terminology (a topic of hot debate on many a message board). I then challenge the reader to find out why they are interested in this field and give a variety of reasons why their answer may or may not lead to their success. I also discuss the reality behind what we do (the money, long hours, types of cases we encounter, etc. all the fun stuff that never gets discussed on television or many of our web sites).
The next section is devoted to helping the person find answers about this field. I don't discuss all of the "theories" out there since many of them are mere opinions that have morphed into facts over the years. I encourage them to read other books on the subject (after finishing mine, of course) including the skeptical views. Much of this chapter is about expanding their mind around this subject and not being sucked in. I know when I first started out I went from skeptic to true believer in no time, it took a while for me to come back to the middle. I talk about how to form a successful group as well as the common pitfalls that seem to ruin many groups over time (or instantly).
I then discuss the overall interview and investigation of paranormal investigations and ghost hunts. Yes, interviews. I don't know why this subject rarely appears in books about investigation, if more groups followed this step most investigations would actually make sense to those who attempt to find answers. I also discuss the follow-up, not just the "analysis" aspect, but checking up on your case after you have helped them.
The final part of the book is a resource section. The first part of this is dedicated to the scientific method and how it relates to this field. This is another subject that gets talked about, but you never see anyone put it to black and white.
Hopefully this book will enlighten a few new groups. Hopefully these groups will "get it" and become the type of group that is not directed by fame and attention or other selfish devotions and is there to help the client and help discover answers instead of perpetuating guesses and old wives tales. This book is only availabe at Lulu.com, but upon some peer review I may release this all over the internet. I am working on a companion book that will dig deeper into the investigation aspect from a group leader's point of view in a fashion that will be very easy to follow and will discuss the plethora of cases we deal with. If I become gun shy about the first one I will put these two books together for a large release, it's not about book sales for me, it's about getting the truth out between the bragging and b.s.
Handbook For the Amateur Paranormal Investigator or Ghost Hunter
I had initially offered this book as a download as a purchase option, but before I received an author's copy I received an e-mail from another group owner/author that my book was being sold in a different format by someone on eBay. This guy downloaded the book and created his own cover and binded the book and set it up for sale on eBay!
